An exhausted Roman Gonzalez returned home with his mother and his trainer Arnulfo Obando yesterday after a long flight from Japan to Nicaragua. Gonzalez fought on November 10th where he made quick work of his opponent Oscar Blanquet of Mexico with a stoppage in-between rounds 2 and 3.

Upon his arrival, Gonzalez was greeted by hundreds of members of Juventud Sandinista (Sandinista Youth) at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport to greet and cheer for the second greatest fighter in Nicaragua’s history.

“The plan was to go in the ring with everything. We had what was necessary to knock out Blanquet and thank God everything went well,” said Gonzalez. “The Japanese fans were very happy and I will fight there again next year because the fight with Juan Carlos Reveco is close to being finalized.”

Gonzalez is happy for what he is able to do for his people and to be a good role model on top of that makes it even better.

“God has given me a gift to be a boxer. I am very happy to be an example. I thank all these youth that came to receive and to President  Daniel Ortega for the support that that he gives to our athletes to succeed.”
