In 2013 Ronnie Shields has taken his stable of Jr Middleweights including Erislandy Lara, Jermell Charlo, and Jermall Charlo from the middle of the pack to the top. Shields has been a top notch trainer for sometime and with his fighters adhering to his practices Lara and the Charlo brothers have put the rest of the division on notice.

This past weekend Jermell Charlo got past his first test when he defeated the tough Gabriel Rosado in a clear Unanimous Decision victory. Soon it will be Jermall’s turn to take a step-up when he challenges for the IBF Jr. Middleweight Championship against Carlos Molina on the undercard of Alvarez vs. Angulo on March 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Molina is the kind of fighter that has such a unique style that it’s hard for anyone to look good against him let alone walk away with a win.  Leading into the fight Ronnie Shields feels that this is the right time for his fighter to take on such a daunting task.

“Carlos Molina is a very tough guy. If we didn’t feel Jermall Charlo was ready for this guy he wouldn’t be fighting him, I mean it’s as simple as that.” Shields continued to praise his undefeated fighter , “Jemall is and will be one of the best Jr Middleweights in the world and Carlos Molina is going to find that out”.

Some fans feel at 17-0 Jermall is being rushed but with a plethora of great sparring including the likes of Jermell and Erislandy Lara, Shields can’t stress it enough that this is Jermall’s time to shine .

“We didn’t take this fight for nothing , we took this fight because we feel confident that Jermall can win it and its an opportunity for himm” stated Shields.

This will be the second time Shields has been opposite Molina in the corner. In 2011 Lara battle Molina to a draw, which many feel Molina did enough to walk away with the win. With a resume that include Erislandy Lara, James Kirkland, Kermit Cintron and Cory Spinks just to name a few,  its clear that Molina will enter the ring with more experience on paper but Ronnie feels that although the resumes are different on March 8th, Jermall will add Carlos Molina to his list of victories.  “He’s (Jermall) a young kid, his resume isn’t as good as Molina’s, but his skills are and thats what’s more important.”
