Antonio Margarito, Alfredo AnguloDecember of 2015 will mark four years since former world champ Antonio Margarito (38-8, 27 KO’s) last fought in a rematch with Miguel Cotto. Margarito would go on to lose the fight after Cotto targeted Margarito’s eye that was badly damaged by Manny Pacquiao a year prior. Margarito was unable to see against Cotto (but was more than willing to continue fighting) and the bout was stopped in the ninth round. After the loss Margarito retired.

A few months ago Margarito had been watching a fight on television and mentioned to his wife that he wanted to return. With her support, he began training in San Diego but he needed more support for the comeback which he received by his promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank Promotions and a doctor that examined his eye to make sure it was healed one-hundred percent. He is expected to return in December.

“I am training very well, and I am happy, Margarito told ESPN Deportes. “I’ve never trained before in Sand Diego, and there are many good places to run here. I have everything necessary to have a good workout.”

“Right now I can not say if I have a date and an opponent but they are supposed to tell me this week. I am supposed to return the first week of December, but I really don’t now. I hope so. I have the clearance letter from the doctor. I was told there would be some fees for the license.”

In his return, Margarito is slated to be fighting in the middleweight division and word going around is that Margarito will face his former gym partner whom he had sparring wars with, Alfredo Angulo (24-5, 20 KO’s). Angulo has gone 2-3 in his last five fights. In his last outing, Angulo stopped Hector Muñoz within five rounds.
