On December 2nd, Ryan Ford (8-0, 5 KO’s) will make his ring return at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta when he takes on Mario Baeza (6-2, 5 KO’s) from Jalisco, Mexico. This fight should have been Ford’s sixth fight this year but his scheduled bout last October in Winnipeg was literally called off while Ford was getting his hands wrapped in preparation for the fight. While being disappointed that he was unable to compete it did give him an opportunity to further his boxing knowledge while training for a few months at the Grant Brother’s Boxing Gym on Canada’s east coast.

“It’s on another level out here,” Ford told Tha Boxing Voice. “I’m training at the Grant brothers  [boxing gym]. You know my main coach Howard Grant brought my boxing skill level and I.Q. to another level. [I’m] Getting to train with these high caliber boxers, Lucian Bute, Shaquille Finn, Dario Bredicean, Francis Lafreniere; you know it’s awesome being in there with guys that have been boxing their whole career.”

Sparring against former world champion Lucian Bute (not to take away anything from the other fighters) has been very beneficial to Ford. Being in the ring with a world champion boxer was something that was new to him and while it was not easy, Ford revealed the experience alone that he got in those sparring sessions.

“It was awesome. You know the first couple were hard. I never experienced being in there with a world champion boxer and on top of that being a southpaw but after a couple sparring sessions it was like I was at home. I’m learning and I improved so much. ”

So how will this new knowledge that Ford has acquired benefit him in his upcoming fight? He does not plan to change much and will do what he normally does whenever he fights but he can fight smarter than he has in the past. Ford believes that Baeza will bring nothing new to the table that Ford has not already seen in the past and Baeza, along with the next few opponents that are going to step foot in the ring with Ford are in for a world of trouble.

“[I’m] Just do me [in the fight]. Pretty much just do what I got to do to put him away.  I just watched [some of Baeza’s fight online] I don’t believe he is going to bring anything to the table that I haven’t seen against guys that I’ve fought and especially against the guys that I have been sparring. I just think that I am on another level right now and the next few opponents that I do fight, they’re not going to be able to handle it.”
