Floyd Mayweather Jr. v Marcos MaidanaFloyd Mayweather Jr. will defend his welterweight titles against Marcos Maidana for the second time this year on September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The first fight was as competitive a fight as Floyd has had in some time, maybe ever. But many boxing experts and hardcore fans don’t expect the results to be duplicated and predict Floyd will win by a much wider margin in a much easier fight.

The fact is Mayweather gets better in rematches and his style and ability is adaptable, so when Floyd gets more rounds with an opponent under his belt it offers him the kind of look he needs to make adjustments. It is safe to assume that Mayweather can take care of business with a bit more ease this time around and it doesn’t help that Maidana is a 1-dimensional fighter.

However, even if the fight is less competitive it can still be entertaining in other ways. Maidana may not change gears, at least not in a way that is relative to winning the fight, but the gear he’s stuck in is the most aggressive kind.

Maidana will try, that’s more than what other Mayweather opponents have done with their opportunity, and it could be interesting to see what Floyd does in the second outing with his lingering frustrations from the first fight still prevalent.

Also, if you believe Sam Watson, then Floyd is going into this fight with bad intentions. A Mayweather design to win a fight is as impressive as it is sometimes dull. But Mayweather might have other intentions beyond winning; he may want some retribution from the first fight. These elements could lead to combustion and for those reasons Watson believes it is the most anticipated fight of the year.

“It’s the biggest fight of the year, and when Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana get together September 13th it’s going to be sparks flying. It’s going to be a war, you know how Maidana came last time, and he’s going to come strong. Floyd is going to be ready for him a little better this time, but Maidana is not scared,” Watson told Thaboxingvoice.com

Watson admits that Floyd’s tendency to get better as a fight goes on could lead to a dominant performance, but the degree of dominance is the question. If Floyd is determined to make a statement then he could give us a tremendous show, but if Mayweather is recklessly over-zealous in his determination then it could provide Maidana the necessary opening for which he can exploit.

“Floyd gets better round by round by round by round. [Floyd] will do enough to win the fight, now this time he wants to beat [Maidana] up. Last time, [Floyd] won by whooping him, this time he wants to whoop him real bad and beat him down, but Maidana doesn’t have any fear in his bones.

“The easier fight is for Floyd to keep him in the middle of the ring, but Maidana is not going for that, Maidana is going to keep rushing him and charging. It’s going to be a serious fight. Floyd is so smart and Maidana’s got to figure out how to hit him clean,” Watson said.
