Unified light-middleweight champion Saul Canelo Alvarez, who is undefeated in 42 professional bouts, is proving more and more that he is a shot caller. Sticking firmly on two topics and basically going to war with two major players in the sport of boxing.

The red-headed native of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico is riding high on his career defining decision win over Austin Trout on April 20 in a jam-packed Alamo Dome in San Antonio, Texas. This fight was a unification bout where Canelo became the WBA and WBC champion at junior middleweight.

Alvarez is showing that he is now in the driver seat at the negotiation tables for the high profile fights which mean big money for sanctioning bodies. Eddy Reynoso, trainer and manager of Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs), states that his fighter is not taking sides and wants to defend both of his junior middleweight world titles (as reported by boxing scene). The WBC doesn’t like their champions to hold multiple titles from numerous sanctioning bodies.

“On Tuesday, we have a meeting with the WBA and they are going to present the championship belt to him. I believe that there won’t be a problem [with the WBC]. We want to defend both championships because for him to say no to the belt, it would be disrespect to the sanctioning body. We have not discussed this topic with the WBC, but all of the organizations deserve respect because boxing is a business, we [have a promotional company] and we have to work with all of the organizations, in addition to which we pay the respective sanctioning fees,” Reynoso said.

Alvarez is proving he is more a boss then a pawn has also publicly stated that Mayweather negotiation are in talks, also stating that he will not drop below the 154lb pound mark to step into the ring with ‘Money’.

Alvarez has insisted he would not be prepared to drop any lower than his preferred weight to fight the unbeaten Mayweather Jr., leaving any chance of a potential clash looking less likely.

“I’ll fight at my weight [154] against Mayweather,” Alvarez told Univision Deportes. “I cannot go lower than 154 because that’s where I feel good. My team and I are ready to fight Mayweather.”
