Evengy Gradovich-Lee SelbyLee Selby has a chance to become a world champion should he defeat the come forward slugger in Evgeny Gradovich. Fighters from the United Kingdom have had an impressive run as to winning world titles as of late. Now Welshmen Lee Selby has his shot.

In talking to RingTV.com, Selby knows the task at hand with Evgeny Gradovich.

“It’s a tough fight, obviously, he’s a good champion,” Selby told RingTV.com. “He’s coming to my backyard to defend his title, so it shows he’s a true fighter. I’m his fifth defense and third mandatory, so I’m up against it. It’s a tough fight but one I think I can win. “

He will be fighting as a contender with the home court advantage. To Selby that was very important in his fight with Gradovich.

For Selby, the key in this fight is dealing with Gradovich in the later rounds as he feels that’s when the IBF featherweight world champion as it his best.

“He does come on strong in the later rounds and he is a bit of a slow starter,” explained Selby. “It would be nice to get an early lead. If I can win the first seven rounds he’s going to have to knock me out to win and I’ll be well ahead and he’ll start making mistakes and fall into shots himself.”

Should he win, it opens the doors for bigger fights against the likes of Nicholas Walters, Vasyl Lomachenko, and Gary Russell Jr.

“At the moment it’s probably one of the best divisions in boxing. It’s got great champions, and they’re great fights out there for me. I wouldn’t like to say who’s the best fighter. They’re great fights there for me and big money fights too if I can win this next one.”
