Today is two days after Mothers Day and If you haven’t given or received anything from or for Mothers Day and your a little down.. I’m glad you came here to receive your daily dose of boxing news to cheer yourself up. This weekend I revisit Saturdays Willie Nelsons Upset, and a gift decision for Badou Jack, also review Jim Lampley’s new boxing themed show, and some possible fights on the horizon. All these topics and more from today’s Wire Report.

Willie Nelson (18-1-1, 11KO’s) pulled the upset of the week, when on Saturday night  he beat formally undefeated Olympic Medalist Yudel Jhonson (12-1, 8KO’s). The fight was held at the Texas Station Casino and was the Main Event for Shobox: The Next Generation. Johnson is an up and coming Cuban silver medalist was the favorite, with an extensive amateur boxing record. It was thought that he’d walk all over the younger fighter Nelson.  The first round was completely not expected where at the end of the round Nelson countered Jhonson and sent him to the mat. It was Jhonson’s first time being down as a Pro. In the Fourth Jhonson returned the favor, when he floored Nelson with a brutal overhand left. I’m sure many thought the fight was over after that punch landed including me. Nelson got up after shaking off the cob webs, and a barrage from Yudel to make it out of a tumultuous round 4. Then the fight changed almost like Yudel gave up, or spent his tank. Nelson won every round after that and ended up winning the match by unanimous decision. The win prompted Lou Dibella, who is Wille Nelson’s boxing promoter to Tweet this immediately after the fights conclusion. “Corley, Quintana, and now Nelson! Three consecutive big upsets for DBE. Congrats Willie and my partners at Rumbletime!!!”

On the Undercard of Nelson vs Jhonson we had a fight between two unbeaten fighters Sweden’s Badou Jack “The Ripper” touting a record of (11-0, 8KO’s)Against Alexander Brand (17-1, 15KO’s) fighting out of Bogata, Colombia. Although I had Badou winning the first round, he never won anyone the other rounds convincingly. Jack never really tried “Ripping” to the body of Brand as his name suggests.  Although Brand’s style was unorthodox to say the least he did come off with the majority of the rounds on my score card to at least get the decision, but alas I was not a judge Saturday night. Jack hung in there and took a split decision victory from Brand I’m glad at least one judge had scored the fight the way I saw. Sometimes even during a robbery I find certain positives.. I’m bred in NYC what do you want, I’ve have a few fitted hats taken from me too.

Jim “Bang Bang” Lampley’s new show entitled the Fight Game debuted on HBO Saturday night. An exciting new show that pits Lampley against boxers, promoters and coaches in a one on one dialogue filled with questions, and comments. My only beef with the show is its duration, a half an hour is not enough time for a show like this. It seemed Lampley had to race through some questions and some of his guests.

The show started off with Golden Boy Production’s CEO Richard Schaefer via satellite, and of course starting off with his main cash crop Floyd Mayweather Jr. who just last weekend helped pull in 1.5 million buys against former light middleweight champ Miguel Cotto. It is said they made over 94 million in revenue. So it’s no surprise that Schaefer begins by saying Mayweather is the pound for pound best in the world, and states that the list of opponents wanting to fight Floyd is getting longer then the cheese line on the first of the month. On this list there was Canelo, Robert Guerrero Devon Alexander, and the winner of Ortiz-Berto 2. When asked about the possibility of a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, Schaefer blamed Top Rank for not wanting to make the fight. Schaefer also believes that Mayweather should get the larger slice of the pie when it comes to the proposed 50/50 split. Suggesting to get the accountants to iron out the numbers to prove Floyd deserves a larger share of the purse. All this translates to you and I..,, Yadda Yadda Yadda that’s my excuses and demands what about you Bob Arum..

Then things got a little juicy, when Jim Lampley addressed Bob Arum after Schaefer got his jabs in. Bob Arum was a little weak but he still talks slow enough for most to understand. Arum went straight for the jugular by comparing Floyd to a Nazi, and poking fun at Floyd’s famous “Take the test” line. Arum went as far as to say that Floyd now uses him as the scapegoat. He Proposed a 45/45 split with the final 10% going to the winner. Great idea that will never happen. Then Arum spoke on the subject of Miguel Cotto coming back to Top Rank, and if he would work with Golden boy to make a Canelo fight. These questions annoyed Arum and told Jim Lampley to “kiss his ass” lol, ok no he didn’t but I can tell he wanted to.

Lampley then brought out Freddie Roach and Amir Khan to talk a little about the Peterson-Khan situation. Roach had nothing bad to say about Lamont and his team, but that it was a shame that this happened. Roach also wanted Khan’s titles back and to have Khan and Peterson’s first fight decision over turned to a no contest. Then Freddie Roach get a little ahead of himself when he claimed to be training two fighters that could beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. I’m not even gonna go there.. He has one fighter that could possibly give Floyd competition, and that yet remains to be seen. Freddie thinking Khan could beat Mayweather is a little far fetched if you ask me though.

Then Lampley did a recap of the show with Max Kellerman, and then brought out the myth, the legend Roy Jones Jr for some in depth expert in-ring analysis. Roy spoke about possible head clashing due to the style match up between Pacquiao and Bradley. Roy also stated the obvious, because of Bradley’s bigger head he tends to but more in a crouch position. Classic. Anyway Lampley then wrapped it up with become the new measuring stick in professional boxing, and how it hinders some fights from being made. Jim even came up with his own list, he called it the Gatti List, which are was made up of fighters that fight for the crowd which included.Jorge Arce, Abner Mares, Mike Alvarado, Orlando Salido, Chris Arreola(Fat Arreola) Canelo Alvarez, Sergio Martinez, Miguel Cotto, Manny Pacquiao, and Floyd Mayweather Jr. The list began with a bang, and ended with a loud thud. I for one enjoyed The Fight Game, it was the first episode so I’m sure the next episodes will be only get better.

Now a couple of fights not yet signed but worth mentioning. Dawson-Ward maybe landing in A/C or Oakland for Sept 8th!! How about Juan Manuel Marquez vs Eric Morales for July 14 in Cowboy Stadium, and last but not least Saul Alvarez and Paul Williams is being negotiated for Sept 15th.

Oh and Manny Pacquiao is against Gay Marriage, sorry Obama, I’m guessing Congressman Pacman won’t be on the campaign trail with you for this election.
