Glen Tapia vs. Michael Soro Glen Tapia wasn’t able to secure a victory in front of his home town crowd at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey against Michael Soro. The TruTV main event was fun while it lasted.

Tapia tried establishing his jab early and worked his outside game fairly well, although he was best when he closed the distance in the first round. Soro kept his composer nicely, even when he was taking shots. Tapia’s aggression won him the round, but he started in such a way that left room for the imagination.

The openings Tapia was creating were evident in the 2nd round as he did some nice body work, although it came in spurts. Soro was getting more comfortable and even though he didn’t have too much offense to speak of he was settling into the fight.

Soro was using his jab better and managed to sneak a few uppercuts in, but he was allowing Tapia to get off with free shots in concession, which is not a great thing to do with a fighter with home field advantage. Still, Soro’s comfort was leading to confidence, which was leading to opportunity.

In the fourth, Tapia was having trouble securing stability and Soro was finding a way to get out of trouble and managed to get in opportune combos of his own. Tapia appeared to tire more in the 4th than in any other round.

Soro took advantage of Tapia’s lethargic state and caught him with a hard right that wobbled Tapia. Tapia was hurt and nearly went down, as he was in trouble Soro started the aggression and chased his wounded opponent. Eventually, Soro stopped Tapia who had had enough.

Soro was able to stop Tapia on his home turf and now questions of Tapia’s chin will be the focal point of future outings.
