Adonis Stevenson is living the dream. He was born in Haiti; a country filled with poverty. Stevenson’s family left Haiti when he was just five years old to seek out a better life elsewhere. At the age of 16 he started kickboxing to get himself into shape and just after three years turned to boxing. It was a dream of his to one day turn pro and his power punching ability got him there. In fact he is one of Canada’s top fighters. How does he feel about that? “It is an honour for me,” said Stevenson.

On June 8th, Stevenson will be competing in the biggest fight of his career against Chad Dawson in Stevenson’s adopted home of Montreal, Quebec Canada. Stevenson got the opportunity of a lifetime when a fight between Dawson and Jean Pascal fell through when Pascal opted out to fight another top Canadian fighter Lucian Bute. Stevenson was approached by his promoter to see if he had any interest in fighting Dawson and Stevenson jumped on the opportunity. The late great Emmanuel Steward had told Stevenson before that if the opportunity ever arises to fight Chad Dawson or Tavoris Cloud to take it because they are a great match up for him.

Dawson last fought when he went down in weight to face super middleweight king Andre Ward in a lopsided fight which resulted in Dawson retiring in the tenth round. Post fight Dawson said that making the weight drained him and he believes that there would have been a different outcome had they fought at light heavyweight. “Ward beat him. It is not going to change if they fight at 175 pounds,” said Stevenson. “With Ward it is going to be the same fight.”

What advantages does Stevenson have against Dawson? “Dawson has a lot of weaknesses. June 8th you all will see.” Fighting at home will only boost Stevenson’s confidence even more. “I fight in my own town because the public comes to see me win. All of my family and friends going to watch the fight and support me is also motivation. I will win by KO.”

Should Stevenson win, a rematch will take place because of a rematch clause in the contract. As for his plans afterwards, he plans on unifying titles.

The fight is a little over two weeks away and Stevenson seems more than ready and offered these departing words,: “Don’t forget to watch ‘The Superman’ on June 8th. I want to thank all of the fans and God bless. Follow me on Twitter @AdonisSuperman. Also thank you to Julio Garcia.”
