On April 30th, Thomas Williams Jr. nabbed the biggest victory of his career when he knocked out Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez with one second left to go in the second round. It was an impressive victory with both fighters getting hurt and throwing bombs at will but the chin of Rodriguez could not take it and one of my favorite rounds of the year and Rodriguez eight-year run without being stopped came to an end just like that.
Williams made a name for himself on Saturday night if he had not already in the past. He has garnered attention from boxing fans around the world and most importantly he has gotten the attention of one of the light heavyweight champions of the world, Adonis “Superman” Stevenson.
Stevenson took to social media to congratulate Williams but it wasn’t all praise as Stevenson reminded Williams that if he wants to be at the top of the division he needs to beat Stevenson first.
“Good fight kid, but I’m not as easy as La Bamba,” Stevenson said via Twitter. “I’m Superman. To be the real top dog you have to beat me.”
A fight between the two could be a possibility in the future. The chances of Stevenson and Kovalev seem slim to none and if Williams has another fight or two and he looks as impressive as he did Saturday night then boxing fans may be in for a delightful treat.
