Susie RamadanIt has been a year since former world champion Susie Ramadan (23-2, 8 KO’s) stepped foot in a boxing ring. When she last fought she traveled to Durango, Mexico to defend her WBC bantamweight title against Yazmin Rivas and ended up losing a unanimous decision. Since the loss, Ramadan has been inactive in her fighting but has continued training and has been pushing herself harder than ever before.

“I have still been in training [while being inactive],” said Ramadan. “If anything, my training has gone up another level. [I’ve been]working extremely hard with my boxing trainer David Hall [which makes me] feel better than ever, so we are confident that if we get a call to fight at any time we are ready. I’m also sponsored by Jurmaine Health, who do a wide range of brain, body assessment and management in order to get me in the best shape possible.

Being inactive and having many let downs for the past few years has been very hard for me physically and mentally so I am delighted to have a good team. A team who all work very hard to get me to the best I can be mentally and physically and, of course, I never stop working hard in order to achieve goals and continue to lead the pathway for women’s boxing.”

Time off can do both good and bad for a fighter, but Ramadan is anxious to get back into the ring. She had hoped to get at least one fight in before the year comes to a close but February seems like it is more than likely when she will return.

“I am ready to fight at any time, but I did not receive any requests to fight any of the top female fighters. However, I have joined forces with Lynden Hosking of Hosking Promotions with the help of agent Eddie Montalvo to get me back on the scene. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to secure a fight by the end of this year but are looking to securing a fight for February of 2016.”

When Ramadan returns to the ring, she wants to fight only the best. No ducking, no dodging any of the top fighters. One fighter, in particular, stands out from the rest, Yazmin Rivas.

“There are many female fighters in the bantam and super flyweight division I would like to fight. Those who are in the top ten would be great and I believe being matched up with any of the top female fighters would be great fights not only for myself but for the public. I would also like another rematch with Yazmin Rivas if that could be possible, I had travelled to Mexico twice when they requested to fight so it’s only fair it would be neutral if it were to happen as I know she won’t travel to Australia.”

Aside from the rematch with Rivas, Ramadan would like to fight on a fight card put on by former world champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley. Mosley has been a supporter in women’s boxing that normally goes ignored by the general pubic.

“My plans [for 2016] are to secure a fight in February, and my goal is to win another world title but it takes one step at a time, and my team will work hard to get the best out of my career. I look forward to fighting with Hosking Promotions, and if Shane Mosely continues to support female boxing, then that would be another goal set to be able to fight for his promotion.”
