The Battle For The Next Jr. Welterweight Contender: Mayfield-Dulorme

Fight fans across the world are excited for the return of hard hitting WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev on March 29th.  However, a Jr.Welterweight showdown on the undercard caught my attention and in my opinion it’s being over looked by many fans.

An extremely enticing Match-up between Karim Mayfield (18-0-1 10KO’s) and Thomas Dulorme (20-1 14KO’s) will be for the vacant NABF Jr.Welterweight title and seems to be a much more competitive fight then the main event.

Karim Mayfield made his pro debut in June of 2006.  He holds good wins over fighters like Steve Forbes and Mauricio Herrera.  Mayfield at 33 years of age has a mature mind and at the same time doesn’t have much mileage on his body.  Despite being 33 years of age, Mayfield only has 19 professional fights under his belt.

Mayfield has a compact stocky build and is physically extremely strong for the 140lb weight class.  He likes to use his physical strength to push and bully his opponents around.  He is also an extremely aggressive fighter and fun to watch.  There have been many rumors about how Mayfield gives many high profile fighters “good work” in sparring.  Mayfield has also been very vocal about how he believes he’s always gotten the short end of the stick in his career.  However, March 29th will be his chance to prove his worth on HBO.

Thomas Dulorme on the other hand started his professional career in August of 2008.  He was considered to be a hot prospect on the rise until he got knocked out in his first real test against Luis Carlos Abregu in 2012.

Dulorme has good hand speed, athleticism and a decent jab.  He has made the move down to 140lbs from the welterweight division hoping it will serve him better.  The winner of this fight will indeed take a big step forward into solidifying themselves as a serious contender in the Jr. Welterweight division.
