British heavyweight Tyson Fury is ready to make some serious noise in his US debut on April 20th against Steve Cunningham at Madison Square Garden. “I’m here and hopefully the fight fans like what they see. If you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere” said a smiling Fury during a recent interview with ThaBoxingVoice.com.
With a flawless record of 20 wins (14 Kos), and victories over journeyman Vinny Maddalone and Derek Chisora, the 6’9” contender is climbing the ranks and becoming increasingly eager to get a title shot against Wladimir Klitschko. “I’m sick to death of hearing about the Klitschkos. After Cunningham, I’m going to hunt him [Wladimir] down all over the world and I’m going to force him to fight. And if he doesn’t want to fight, which I don’t think he does, I’m going to make him relinquish his title. These guys have bored the heavyweight division for too long.”
Before he gets a chance at “Dr. Steelhammer,” however, he will need to get past a game Steve Cunningham next month. The Philly native is coming off a controversial split decision against Tomasz Adamek and will be out to prove that he is a force to contend with in the division.
On April 20th, we will see many fight fans eager to see what Fury is all about during his first trip to the states. Some believe that with his height and tempo, he may be the only one that can challenge Wlad or Vitali for a title.
Fury certainly does. When asked about the path in front of him and the other relevant names in the division, he responded “I’ll take all comers, Wilder, Mitchell, Jennings, Thompson, Arreola, Stiverne. You line ‘em up and I’ll knock ‘em down”
Brimming with confidence that’s sometimes humorous and sometimes abrasive, Fury might be considered the heavyweight division’s Adrien Broner. When he talks to the media, you can almost see Max Kellerman grinning at whatever sound bite he just cooked up and served. “The Tyson Fury Road show is in town and I’m going to do a demolition job on Steve Cunningham come April 20th, and after that, I’m going on Klitschko bitch-hunt.”
