Heavyweight prospect LaRon Mitchell (4-0, 4 KOs) has signed a promotional contract with Southern California-based Thompson Boxing Promotions, the company announced today. Mitchell, 34, fought on a Thompson Boxing event in May and soon after, agreed to terms with the company that has promoted world champions Timothy Bradley, Jhonatan Romero, and Yonnhy Perez, among others.
“I’m thrilled to fight under the Thompson Boxing banner,” said Mitchell, who had a solid amateur run capped by a bronze medal at the 2012 U.S. Nationals. “I got a late start in the sport, but I’m a hard worker and I look forward to improving with every fight.”
“We like his power, we like his determination to get better,” said Ken Thompson, president and founder of Thompson Boxing. “We plan on keeping him busy and we’ll monitor his progress carefully.”
Mitchell, a southpaw from San Francisco, fights this Friday, Sept. 26 on the undercard of Thompson Boxing’s “Path to Glory” event at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Calif. Mitchell, who stands 6’4″, faces fellow prospect Eric Hector Martinez (8-6-1, 5 KOs) of Sacramento in a scheduled 4-rounder.
