Thurman-PorterOne of the best fights that could be made in the welterweight division is one between Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter. They are two of the best welterweights in boxing, and they possess the kind of athletic skillset that would make this an exciting fight.

The best part about this potential matchup is we could get the best of both worlds. Fans can expect some high level boxing from two gifted athletes, but there is also the possibility of some fireworks from two guys unwilling to back down from a firefight.

In a recent interview with Thaboxingvoice.com’s Nestor Gibbs, both Porter and Thurman spoke about the potential for a fight and assured fans that they will definitely be fighting at some point. Furthermore, both men stated that a contract is all it would take before they signed off on a fight against one another.

“That’s what [Thurman] said, the contracts all we need, same here,” Porter told Thaboxingvoice.com with Thurman by his side. “Like I always say, this fight is going to happen, I’ve said that before. Everybody knows it; it’s just a matter of time. I don’t have a problem with it, [and] neither does he. We both competitors, we both love what we doing right now.”

It was reassuring to see both men in the video and both openly discussing the potential fight. Porter and Thurman are actually friends with a long history. In fact, Thurman playfully interrupted Porter at one point and jokingly said they “might fight right now,” which got a laugh from Porter.

“We love the sport of boxing,” Thurman chimed in during the video with Porter. “We grew up together, we was in amateurs, we was taken tournaments down together, we were taking out the Ukraine’s together. We was the only two US boys that hold down the house for USA, everybody else in the United States lost versus Ukraine besides Shawn Porter and myself.”

Porter summarized both his and Thurman’s point by saying, “Bottom line, it’s a lot of history here and it’s going to be a lot of history when we get into the ring.”
