Fight fans have a great night of boxing to look forward to this weekend on HBO with the rematch between Chavez Jr. and Vera taking place at the Alamodome in San Antonio Texas.  However, many fans are more excited and intrigued by the co-main event which will feature current WBO world featherweight champion Orlando Salido (40-12 28Ko’s) defending his title against former Olympic gold medalist Vasyl Lomachenko (1-0 1Ko’s).

This fight is very unique and intriguing because Lomachenko has only one professional fight and he will be looking to make history by trying to win a world title in only his second professional fight.  Though admittedly, I am not too familiar with Lomachenko after watching some footage of him I noticed that he has great footwork and hand speed.  Lomachenko fights out of the southpaw stance and seems to have good athleticism as well.  It should be noted that he fought at 132lbs as an amateur which is the equivalent of two weight divisions above what he is currently campaigning as in the professional ranks.  He will be naturally the bigger man come fight night against Salido which might help him deal with Salido’s pressure and punching power.

Orlando Salido on the other hand is a seasoned professional and a veteran in the sport with 40 professional wins.  He holds quality wins over the likes of Rogers Mtagwa, Juan Manuel Lopez (twice) and Orlando Cruz.  He has seen everything there is to see in a boxing ring and he will be looking to use his vast experience to help him beat Lomachenko.  Salido is a bull in the ring and throws punches in bunches.  However, he can be a slow starter and usually comes on towards the second half of the fight like many other Mexican pressure fighters. If Lomachenko can’t catch Salido early and get him out of there in the early rounds, it will be a very rocky fight for the Ukrainian southpaw.
