Cinco de Mayo and Mexican Independence Day are known for bringing big events and even bigger fights to the boxing world each and every year. In recent history, pay per views have been put on where the main event is the only focus. Now it is true that the main event is the reason why most attend but it is very important to build the pay per view stars of tomorrow and that’s exactly what happened this year. On Saturday May 4th the boxing world was treated to one of the best pay per views in a long time. Even if you were not interested in the main event, the undercard was stacked and action packed which would keep casual fans and diehard fans glued to their TV.
In each of the undercard fights we seen the fighters go to war and pushed their limits literally stealing the show from the main event. You had rising stars going against each other and even if they lost the match they were in they still won because their stock increased even greater. The biggest standouts on the card had to of been Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares with an honorable mention for Daniel Ponce De Leon. The action these fighters put on got the crowd hyped up for the main event.
In a closely contested and debatable decision, those who purchased the pay-per-view were treated to a fun fight between J’Leon Love and Gabriel Rosado. Though not many people in Las Vegas were in attendance for that fight, those who bought the pay-per-view saw what was probably the most even fight of the night which Love won via decision. Love was dropped in the fight and got up to win on the judges’ scorecards.
The main event itself, to a boxing purist was beautiful. Not many gave Robert Guerrero a shot at Floyd Mayweather and it was easy to see why. Mayweather dominated the fight with his superior defense, speed and pot shots busting his opponent repeatedly. Though the main event did not live up to the level of the undercard, it was still entertaining.
A king reigned supreme, warriors went into battle, new stars were born, and a very good event took place. The best part of the pay per view is seeing how the competitors are going to match or surpass it and a new era of mega events will take place.
