From the first bell this fight was fought in a phone booth. Chris Van Heerden took it to Cecil McCalla from the jump to negate the ring generalship of McCalla. McCalla who is an undefeated fighter hardly had success in the ring tonight. Van Heerden kept his face in McCalla chest the whole night and his body shots clearly wore down McCalla, who likes to keep his distance when he fights. Van Heerden controlled most of the action in the ring, not letting McCalla really get off at all.
How one judge scored nine rounds for McCalla is beyond me, but we were unfortunately finalized with a split decision victory for Chris “The Heat” Van Heerden. Two of the judges scored the fight 97-93 and 96-94 respectively and one judge incredulously scored it 91-99 for McCalla. Look out for Van Heerden who is trained by Freddie Roach in the future.
