Jessie VargasFollowing the announcement that he will be taking on the toughest assignment of his young career in ‘The Desert Storm’ Timothy Bradley(31-1-1, 12KO’s), WBA World super-lightweight champion Jessie Vargas(26-0, 9KO’s) told Boxingnewsonline.net he feels this could be the fight to catapult him in to a super fight down the road.

Vargas will be adding seven pounds to his lanky frame for this welterweight fight on June 27th in Carson, California, and is well aware that Bradley’s name is synonymous with one of the most famous fighters in the sport.

“Look good and who knows? I know that beating Bradley will compare me to Manny Pacquiao, will put me in a position to fight Manny Pacquiao in fans’ eyes which is the most important thing. I’m ready for it. I’m looking forward to it.”

While a good performance against Bradley will get his name in the mix, anything less than a conclusive win will leave observers still questioning the Mexican-American’s calibre in and amongst the best in the world.

Bradley is a very difficult man to dominate. His only official professional loss came via a close unanimous decision to Pacquiao last year, but a lacklustre display in his draw with Diego Chaves last December will serve to encourage Vargas.

“Everything depends on how I look in this fight, how I perform and that will get me in the big fights. I don’t know how to step back. I have the biggest heart out there and I know how to fight.”

The same criticism -if you view this statement in such a light- can certainly be levelled in Bradley’s direction. He casts aside his substantial boxing ability in pursuit of punishing exchanges all too often. Since both men lack the kind of power that can turn a fighter’s lights out with one shot, this could turn in to a long and punishing affair. But Vargas says he is prepared.

“I’m ready for it. I don’t care where you put me. Whether it’s in a club ring, you know what I mean or the biggest stage in the world. I’m there to fight.”
