Virgil HunterJune 20th is full of boxing on the calendar. The bets fight on the calendar is a 144 lb clash between Adrien Broner and Shawn Porter. Besides the catch weight, Porter will be restricted to rehydrating a certain limit come fight night. Andre Ward’s trainer Virgil Hunter says it’s a fight he doesn’t want to miss but unfortunately he will because his fighter Andre Ward fights on the same night.

Regarding the catch weight and rehydration clause, Hunter feels the only one who can speak on that matter is Shawn and Ken Porter.

“I can’t predict,” Hunter told ThaBoxingVoice.com. “Kenny knows his son better than anybody. If Kenny is confident in his son in making the weight, he’ll go with his decision. You can question his decision or the fighter’s decision to go down to 144. Its only 3 pounds right? “

He feels that even though other fighters have fought at higher weights in the amateurs, they have still done well. Plus Kenny Porter has done right by his son in his career.

“You look at the kid Beterbiev,” Hunter explained. “He’s fighting at 175 and in the amateurs he fought at 185-200. And that’s a huge drop down. I don’t know Shawn like Kenny knows him. If he took the fight, he’s confident he can win. He hasn’t made any mistakes with Shawn so far; he’s gotten him to the top, and he’s keeping him up there for a while at the top. He’s always there, and that’s all you can ask, so I can question the move or not.”

As far as the Broner-Porter fight, it’s a fight you can miss says Hunter.

“I think that’s going to be a great fight, two world class fighters like that. It’s a great fight for PBC. It’s a great fight for the fans and a great fight for everyone and I don’t want to miss it.”
