Where Does Andre Berto Go From Here?

Andre Berto lost Saturday night in a valiant effort against Jesus Soto Karass in San Antonio in a crossroads battle for both in their careers. Berto suffered the first knockout loss of his career and has lost three of his last four fights. He also sustained an injury around the mid-rounds of the fight which could take a good amount of time to heal.

So what is next for the former two time world champion? Fans are quick to urge Berto to retire but I do not see that happening. The fight against Soto Karass showed Berto’s heart and determination. He did well with just one arm at times and he did not quit as well as working with a new trainer it is a lot for a fighter to take into a big fight.

What do I see? I could see Berto moving up in weight to 154 pounds. There are plenty of fights at 154 and with Berto’s speed and heart he could do well…as long as he avoids the shoulder roll. Berto has spent more time at 147 pounds than he should have, especially after failing to land those big fights that he wanted.

Berto may not headline a main event on Showtime for a while but he should be able to land some undercard spots to help re-build himself. What Berto needs now most of all is to take his time, perfect his craft and most importantly use his brain and think of what is to come and where to go.
