Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Dillian Whyte (15-0, 12 KO’s) wasted no time to make a statement against Brazilian Irineu Beato Costa Junior (17-5, 15 KO’s) and ended his evening in the very first round.

Whyte, 27, dropped his man down twice with left hooks, with the second one being the conclusive blow. The official stoppage was 2:41 in the very first round.

With the victory, Whyte will look forward to fighting his domestic rival in unbeaten Anthony Joshua (13-0, 13 KO’s) later this year, given that Joshua gets past unbeaten Scottish fighter Gary Cornish for the British heavyweight title in September.

Whyte defeated Joshua in 2009 when the two fighters were amateurs, and the latter was provoked into taking this fight to settle the score.

Following Whyte’s victory, Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter made it official.

“The deal is done. Anthony Joshua will be fighting Dillian Whyte later this year,” Hearn said.

Whyte’s trainer Johnathan Banks, who also trains heavyweight titlist Wladimir Klitschko, foreshadowed that this isn’t just any regular fighter, but a star in the making.

“We’re just getting started. You’ve not seen nothing yet,” Banks said.

According to Whyte, he was hoping to go a few more rounds for the experience. However, Banks told him to start fast, and his power was simply too much for his adversary.

“I was hoping to go a few more rounds, but Johnathan Banks told me to start quickly,” Whyte said. “I landed high on his temple and that was it. I can’t wait to fight Joshua. I’m confident.”

Boxing has been criticized for the lack of quality opposition in the heavyweight division for over a decade. However, two men from the United Kingdom are looking to change that – to commence their own kingdom and reign in the heavyweight division, and they aren’t going to be united in that effort.

Only one man can be King, who will it be?
