Yuriorkis Gamboa vs. Darley Perez going to be a telling fight, questions may be answered on Gamboa was his canvas touching an epidemic or product of struggling to make weight for division he out grew ? Gamboa will be moving up in weight to the 135 pound division taking on a formidable opponent in Perez.

Perez (28-0, 19 KO) is a 29-year-old Colombian, may look to this generation boxrec fan as one of two things,  a tough test or a fluffed up record that only looks good on paper. I’m here to say unfortunately it’s a bit of both. Perez showed good skill and durability versus Bahodir Mamadjonov but that’s really the only creditable name on his résumé to speak of.

Gamboa (22-0, 16 KO) comes into this fight at a bigger disadvantage then his listed height of 5’5 or his disadvantage of 3 inches are reach, Gamboa doesn’t have the greatest chin or balance, we all seen him take a shot and go down from an unknown Michael Farenas, in his last fight.

Physical disadvantages aren’t the only thing that plagues Gamboa. His inactivity or lack of activity is probably the biggest mistake that he has created for himself and his career with promotional problems in the past, what was once a growing name in the sport is becoming closer to forgotten.

A win will set Gamboa up big, with rumors about the possibility that two-division WBA world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (22-0, 16 KOs) will take on undefeated Colombian prospect Darley Perez (28-0, 19 KOs) for the WBA interim lightweight world title.

Factor in that  Sean Gibbons, matchmaker for 50 Cent is also the manager of IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez (33-3, 13 KO’s) so all roads lead to Gamboa getting a title shot with either Richard Abril or Miguel Vazquez by the end of this year. A solid performance by Gamboa can secure a return date for “El Ciclon de Guantánamo”.
