box_ga_klitschko-jennings_576x324On the heels of one of the biggest heavyweight title fights in recent history, Deontay Wilder’s 12 round unanimous decision victory over Bermane Stiverne, we already have another significant heavyweight title fight on the schedule.

Mike Coppinger reported last night that Bryant Jennings has confirmed he will be fighting WBO/WBA/IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on April 25th at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The news, which broke on Boxingscene.com last night, confirms weeks of speculation that the bout would be finalized. There were rumors that the fight was in jeopardy and that Jennings himself was the cause, but those reports have been squashed and it appears that the fight is moving forward with full steam.

Jennings recently became a Roc Nation Sports entity after the company bought out Gary Shaw Productions last week, making the New York site that much more interesting.

Klitschko has an HBO contract and the bout will surely end up on the network.

It appears as though the heavyweight division is thriving in a way that we haven’t experienced in some time. If the momentum continues then perhaps it won’t be completely inconceivable to picture the Klitschko-Jennings winner fighting Wilder at the end of the year, but that is probably as farfetched as anything else in boxing. These are the kind of visions fans get when you treat them to what they want. Give an inch and we’ll demand the mile.
