Heavyweight fighter Yahu Blackwell will get his chance to compete for the WBC Fecarbox Silver belt, a shot he has been eagerly awaiting. The title fight is tentatively scheduled for September in the Dominican Republic.

Although Blackwell has been inactive for several years, with his last pro fight coming in 2018, he was supposed to have gotten his shot in March of this year. Now, he’s just counting down the days until he fights.

Blackwell trains out of Baltimore, Maryland, though he is originally from Ghana, and once he received the word from his manager, Joe Cortez, that he would get the chance to fight for the belt his team kicked training into high gear.

The bout will take place in the Dominican Republic, the same location where the March bout was to take place. This fight is a dream for Blackwell, and it is something he promised himself he would achieve after the death of his mother in 2015.

With over 150 amateur wins in international competitions, his 3-1 professional record does not reflect the success he had in the International Boxing League where he went undefeated in 15 fights.

Alberto Vera, the supervisor of the WBC regional division, declared that Blackwell will indeed get his shot in a statement made regarding the Fecarbox Silver Belt.

“We are excited to have Yahu Blackwell fight for the Fecarbox Silver title in September, in the Dominican Republic.”

So far, no opponent has been named, TBV will update as the information becomes available.
