Former women’s world champion Laila Ali recently appeared on The Breakfast Club where she discussed various topics including her career and the state of women’s boxing. She had high praise for two time Olympic gold medalist and current world champion Claressa Shields. She has garnered much attention from the current champ who doesn’t seem all that impressed with what was said.
“So everyone was texting and tweeting me about Laila Ali giving me props on The Breakfast Club so I decided to go and give it a listen! And honestly to me it was some disrespect and shade and my thing is it only takes a phone call to rumble,” stated Shields via Twitter.
What shade is Shields referring to? Well, that would be Ali’s statement that she doesn’t think that there is anyone in boxing that would pose a challenge. Well, it just so happens that Shields is the champion in Ali’s division.
“She kinda called me out. I had no desire to fight the 10-year retired former world champion!”
Shields did not have any interest in fighting Ali until those comments were made but the interest seems to be there now. Ali would return for the right money and with the push that Shields has gotten the money may be there.
