With most pundits believing that a potential Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fight has a deadline of Super Bowl Sunday, news has surfaced about a potential Manny Pacquiao-Amir Khan fight. However, a lot of factors involved in making a fight with Mayweather, also involve Khan. Those factors are being advised by Al Haymon and potentially still owing Showtime a fight.

But Pacquiao was heading to the UK for a dinner with Prince Harry and maybe to discuss a potential fight, more in depth.

Arum spoke to the media in Colorado regarding a potential fight.

“Prince Harry has a group looking to put on a Manny Pacquiao fight in London,” Arum said told ESPN. “Khan would certainly make sense, and it’s an interesting fight. But remember — all that is a backup plan. We are still trying to nail down the Mayweather fight. We need Mayweather to say yes.”

In regards to Haymon being involved, Arum believes the difference with Khan is that he is promoted, by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.

“Khan’s contract situation is that he is promoted by Oscar [De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions] and he has an advisory contract with as we understand it. Oscar is confident he can make the fight,” Arum said.

Although Khan has said that he is a free agent. Dan Rafael of ESPN previously reported, that as a part of the De La Hoya/Schaefer split, the 3 fighters that were Haymon managed but remained under Golden Boy were Amir Khan, Lucas Matthysse, and Leo Santa Cruz.

According to Arum, De La Hoya’s lawyers say that Khan Showtime’s contract is up. While a source in Colorado stated that Khan still owes Showtime a fight because he signed a three fight deal. The fight he fought in May versus Collazo was on a pay-per-view was not part of the three fight deal since technically it was not on Showtime.

However, Arum hopes this is all a Plan B that they don’t have to use.

“Hopefully, it won’t happen, and we won’t need this plan because Manny will be fighting Mayweather,” Arum said. “But you have to plan ahead.”
