Kell ‘Special K’ Brook is scheduled for a rematch with Carson Jones. The last fight was a brutal affair.
Brook was dominant early on using his speed and boxing skill. Later on in the fight Kell became fatigued and Jones really came into the fight. Jones really pushed Kell to the absolute limit. Kell was very lucky to come through the fight in the end. Brook received a point’s decision following an absolute cracker of a fight.

The first fight was supposed to be a test for Brook but not quite to this level. It was a real scare for Brook but one that he will learn a lot from. One thing that was proved is that Brook has heart and serious determination.

Following the fight Brook came out and said that there had been issues in the camp and that he was not in good condition coming into the fight. There are rumors that Brook hadn’t quite been living the life of a boxer outside the ring. It was then said that he would sort his stamina issues out and look to bring in a proper conditioning coach to help him.

We will never really know if these are legitimate reasons or just excuses for not quite performing as he would have wanted. The fight was scored 114-114, 116-113 and 115-113 in Brook’s favour. It is also said that once the fight had finished Brook was taken to hospital to receive treatment on a broken nose due to blood loss.

Since this fight Brook has gone on to extend his unbeaten run to 29 fights with a fantastic display against Hector Saldivia. By winning this fight Brook became the mandatory challenger for the IBF title recently won by Devon Alexander. After this Brook would suffer an extremely frustrating time in trying to actually fight Alexander. The fight has been called off 3 times due to injuries on both sides so Lee Purdy stepped in for Brook meaning that Kell remains number 1 contender but Alexander may not have to fight him for 9 months. This was Brook’s big chance to announce himself on the big stage and challenge for a world title.

With this chance now gone it appears that Amir Khan has sneaked in and taken the opportunity. Khan is set to face Alexander for the title in December. Provided that both Khan and Brook win their fights it could set-up a very exciting all British affair for the title next year. Brook and Khan have a big rivalry with both taking digs at each other regularly and a fight between the 2 seems inevitable at some point.

I see Brook winning the rematch with Carson Jones in a more dominant nature than the first fight. Brook will really be looking to put on a show and highlight how good a fighter he really is following his injury-ridden last few months.

He will have a bit of spite in him and I expect him to combine his classy boxing style with some big shots. I also expect Brook to knock-out Jones late in the fight. No matter what the result is this fight will be an entertaining match between 2 fighters with history who will be determined to prove a point.

I am very excited about Kell’s return to the ring as he is a great talent who can really achieve some great things in this sport. There are some blockbuster fights out there for Kell should he come through this fight. The welterweight division is booming with talent with the likes of Khan, Mayweather, Ortiz, Bradley, Marquez, Guerrero, Pacquiao and Alexander. These potential future fight will provide create desire for Brook in this fight.

There are however rumours that he is struggling to make the weight now and that he may have to move up to light-middleweight. Whether he moves up or not I expect big things for Special K.
