Up until the past couple days Jose Benavidez Jr. and his team were preparing to go to war in the ring with Canadian welterweight champion Steve Claggett but those plans ended up getting scrapped due to an injury suffered by Claggett.
Jose Benavidez Sr. would have loved for the fight to take place. A win for either man would do great for their career but it would not be an easy win and according to Sr. the fight between his son would have been a 50-50 fight.
“It’s a tough fight for me you know,” said Sr. “It’s a tough fight. It’s going to be a good fight. This kid is good. I think he is good. He has been all over the place. He has a good record and I think it is going to be a good, tough fight for us. It’s not an easy win for us. We might win, we might lose. We are just going to try and do our best. It’s a good fight. That guy (Claggett) is a good fighter. Sometimes you know well wow we have 80% that we are going to win here. It’s 50-50 you know.”
