Lamont Peterson spoke to ThaBoxingVoice.com’s Peter Clarke regarding a plethora of opponents he wants to face. He spoke to Clarke regarding the 140 lb division and who he would like to face. He also spoke on his opinion regarding friend and star of boxing, Adrien Broner. Here’s Part 2 of the interview:

    ThaBoxingVoice:

What do you think of the entire 140 lb division right now? Is it more bark than bite or is there a legitimate 8 or more top fighters?

    Lamont Peterson:

I would even push it to 12 guys, outside of the top 10, there are a few other names missing.

    TBV:

Who would you rank as the top 5 at 140 currently, excluding yourself?

    LP:

Rios, Khan, Matthysse, Garcia, and then either Alvarado or Judah.

    TBV:

If you want your next fight, whether it’s against Matthysse or not, would you consider moving up to 147 to face a Mayweather or Devon Alexander or are you comfortable right now staying at 140?

    LP:

I think at 147 you would see a better Lamont Peterson, so I’d be definitely looking forward for the opportunity to move up.

    TBV

What are your thoughts on Adrien Broner? Do you think his hype is well deserved?

    LP:

We train together so the hype is legit; I know he’s for real.

    TBV:

Would you be open to facing him in the future if he moves up to 140?

    LP:

I would say that, not right now.

    TBV

How important was Barry Hunter to you when you were going through the mess in the past year of accusations? Tell me what he means to you?

    LP:

He gave me the confidence that he was not going to let anything happen to me, just great relaxation

    TBV:

Is Danny Garcia another guy that you would be looking at for a future fight later this yr? Do you think his newly found fame is well deserved?

    LP:

I would love that fight and as soon as possible.

    TBV:

Now we all know about the split between Top Rank and Golden Boy, but we also love unification fights. There’s a big title fight between Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado in Vegas on a couple weeks. What are your thoughts on that fight and do you think a fight between you and the winner of that fight could be possible, despite the different promotions? Would you be interested in fighting the winner?

    LP:

Yea, hopefully 1 day it can happen. That’s something I would definitely push for; the winner of that fight will have the WBO belt, so hopefully it will happen.

    TBV

Do you have a final message for all the fans that will be reading this and who have supported you?

    LP:

Thanks for the support, especially in the last year. You gave me hope, thanks.
