On April 27th, Julio “The Kidd” Diaz took the biggest step in his late career comeback going over to England to fight Amir “King” Khan on his own turf.

Many fans had written Diaz off and expected an early to mid round KO but Diaz proved to Khan and to fans that he is no pushover; even though many had written him off a long time ago.

Khan controlled the first three rounds of the fight and in the fourth round the tide started to change when Diaz landed a left hook and straight right that hurt Khan and sent him down then wobbling Khan in the eighth round. It seemed as if the comeback was going to be very sweet.

Khan did get some help in continuing the fight without the fear of getting knocked out when the referee paused the fight to lecture Diaz on taunting his opponent.

Diaz would apply pressure the rest of the fight continuously wobbling Khan until the end of the fight.

Diaz lost a close decision to Khan with scores of 113-114, 113-115 and 112-115.

After the fight Virgil hunter praised Diaz. “The thing we proved; we told everyone that Julio Diaz was going to be a tough fight.”

The praise didn’t end there.  “Julio is a tough, tough Mexican fighter. He would not take a step backwards but we stick to the game plan and came out with the win,” said Amir Khan.

Diaz has proven that he can still compete with top level competition and has a lot remaining and is far from finished.
