Much has been made about the Garcia-Matthysse Media Press Tour that was supposed to happen a few weeks ago and then was rescheduled to this week and eventually cancelled again. According to ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael, Lucas Matthysse did not want to make the second of two stops on the east coast tour after New York, which was Garcia’s hometown of Philadelphia. So because of that, Garcia did not want to go to Los Angeles stop and then attend the Showtime card between Abner Mares-Jhonny Gonzalez, where both fighters would likely make an appearance on the telecast.
So it’s all water under the bridge. In speaking with Matthysse’s trainer Cuty Barrera, Team Matthysse will arrive this weekend to finish up camp and also to attend the Mares-Gonzalez fight. Matthysse will finish his camp in California and according to Barrera they will be getting sparring from none other than WBO welterweight world champion Timothy Bradley and former lightweight champion of the world, Juan Diaz.
As for the location of training camp, Barrera says that it’s still being determined but Bradley and Diaz would definitely be some of the fighters they will be sparring with in preparation for his showdown with Danny Garcia on September 14th.
