Eddie Hearn, managing director of Matchroom Sport, has revealed that Lee Purdy v Carson Jones is on the cards for a London show on either the 8th or 15th of December.
“I hope to announce Purdy v Jones soon. I’m very, very close.” Hearn told ThaBoxingVoice
The bout is a mouthwatering prospect for fans as both men are amongst the hardest hitting at 147lbs with neither adverse to a phone booth war.
When confirmed, this will give Jones a second opportunity to claim the IBF International belt which he came so close to snatching from the grasp of Kell Brook in July. Through the first six rounds Jones withstood heavy pressure from one of the UK’s rising stars but refused to quit, his persistence was rewarded as he wore down Brook in second half of the fight with a series of heavy shots only to find himself on the wrong end of a close majority decision.
Lee Purdy picked up the strap, vacated by Brook, with a breath taking performance against undefeated Argentinean banger Gumersindo Carrasco at Alexandra Palace earlier this month.
The two combatants stood toe-to-toe for four rounds in a war which would be decided by who possessed the better chin. Purdy dropped his rival 3 times before referee stopped the contest.
Matchroom are not known for resting on their laurels and don’t intend to start now with Hearn promising that the December event will be action packed card from top to bottom.

“I want to do something where we give something back to the fans with a bumper show with as many title fights as I can fit in; John Ryder v Kreshnik Qato, Lee Purdy v Carson Jones, Darren Barker will be back out barring injury. I just want to do a little Christmas treat for the fans, “said a delighted Hearn.
Also returning to action that night will be Erick Ochieng, as he looks to make the step up in class. “We’re ready for the big fish we’re giving up the English and looking for the commonwealth title,” The Kenyan born fighter announced.
