Well Wishes For The Golden Boy

Oscar De La Hoya, a former Olympic gold medalist and world champion over a remarkable 6 weight classes has admitted himself into rehab just ahead of perhaps his biggest night as a promoter.

De La Hoya is a charismatic man who has created the biggest promotion company in the world following his retirement from the sport. His Golden Boy Promotions has some of the world’s top fighters signed to them and played a major role in the creation of the pending Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez v Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather fight.

It is surprising to find out that Oscar had admitted himself into rehab just ahead of this major fight in which he personally has so much involvement in. Canelo is his star man and fellow countrymen and would love nothing more than to see him beat Mayweather.

In a statement De La Hoya said:

“Canelo Alvarez and I have big fights coming up this weekend. His is the ring and mine in treatment, I will not be at the fight to cheer Canelo to victory since I have voluntarily admitted myself into a treatment facility “I explained this to Canelo and he understood that my health and long-term recovery from my disease must come first.”

De La Hoya admitted to being an alcoholic and drug user 2 years ago and has been previously been in rehab but as yet we are unsure if the admission this time is for the same reasons.

It is a crying shame to hear that Oscar is struggling as he is a very likable character and he would desperately have wanted to have been at the fight this weekend as it is a mega fight that will go down in history. I wish Oscar all the best with his recovery and hope to see him back soon setting up the best fights out there.
