Martirosyan-Joe-Goossen-1In preparation for his upcoming April 18th bout, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has added a new member to his team. Steve Kim of Boxingscene.com reports that Chavez has enlisted the services of veteran trainer Joe Goossen. Goossen will serve as head trainer and help prepare Chavez Jr. for his bout with Andrzej Fonfora.

Goossen in the past has trained the likes of Diego Corrales, Joel Casamayor, Michael Nunn, the Ruelas brothers, and most recently John Molina Jr and Vanes Martirosyan. Goossen is known for his no-nonsense type of style that brings the best out of his fighter.

“It is a fact I will be training Chavez Jr. and we just came to an agreement last night. I’m very anxious and very excited to work with him. I’ve often stated before in a few interviews when people asked me – ‘Who would you like to train out there?’ – and I said it several times in the past few years that if I had to pick he was at the top of my list,” Goossen told BoxingScene.com.

Goossen feels they will be a good match as well. “He’s the type of fighter where I think our styles could definitely mesh.”
