    Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder

Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury makes his return to the ring following that highly contentious split decision draw with WBC king Deontay Wilder in December. Many pundits and former fighters who watched the Fury – Wilder bout in Los Angeles on 1 December thought the Englishman was extremely hard done by.

He boxed beautifully despite taking on one of the fiercest fighters the sport has ever seen. Wilder KO’d every man that had been placed in front of him before meeting Fury and the Gypsy King not only lasted the distance, he looked to have done enough to win the bout. Tyson built up a sizeable lead on the scorecards but two knockdowns in the final four rounds helped level up the scores. A rematch was ordered but is yet to materialise.

    Fury takes on Schwarz

In the meantime, Fury is scheduled to take on little-known German Tom Schwarz at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on 15 June over 12 rounds. It’s a quickfire return to America and a chance for the Brit to build his fan base state side. He won many new admirers after taking The Bronze Bomber to the scorecards and is shrewd enough to know if he wants to crack the top division again, he will need a solid support on both sides of the Atlantic. Tyson also needs promoters to know he’s a man who doesn’t shy away from a challenge and is happy to fight anyone, anytime, anywhere.

The draw with Wilder late last year took his professional record to 27 wins and one share from 28 fights, having never tasted defeat as a prize fighter. Of those 27 wins, 19 have come inside the distance, leaving the 30-year-old with a 68% KO average. Many of his knockout wins came early in his career, however, and he seems to have adopted a more tactical approach since returning from a three-year absence from the sport he loves.

The betting is in for Fury v Schwarz and it’s no surprise to see odds-makers throw the weight of their support behind the former champ. Bookies are offering extended coverage of this live battle and TBA’s Unibet review shows the online firm have pushed the boat out, offering better prices and more exciting markets than many of their rivals.

    Red-hot favourite with bookies

Bet on Tyson Fury to win in Vegas and you’ll have to make do with a lightweight 1/50. That will scare most off as it’s difficult to find a use for a quote like that, even in stacked accumulators. That means those after a financial interest in the face-off must venture into the specials, but there’s no lack of options designed to catch your eye.

Flicking through the method of victory market and bookies have Fury to win by KO/TKO as the most likely outcome here. That’s a 4/9 shot and there’s enough there to merit a play. A third points cheer on the bounce is 17/10. The stats make that well worth a second look, with three of the 6ft 9inch orthodox’s last four testing those sat at ringside.

What danger does Tom Schwarz pose? He has been written off across the board, but his record suggests he’s a man not to be taken lightly with an unblemished 24-fight card. 16 of his wins have come by KO/TKO and the underdog will be eager to call on that power again, testing an opponent who was slammed onto the canvas twice in his last outing. Wilder did a lot of trouble in December, could Schwarz pick through the bones and finish the job?

Fast start needed from the underdog

The 6ft 5inch orthodox puncher hasn’t gone the distance since 2017 and even that was in an eight-round fight. Since then he has dealt with six opponents in double-quick time, with three of those victims falling before the end of the second round.

Another fast start is a must if he is to pull Fury out of his comfort zone and it’s expected a young, ambitious Schwarz will be seen throwing full blooded shots from the first bell. If he can target the body and slow Fury down, he may just have a chance of adding his name to a list of heavyweights who have upset the odds.

Schwarz arrives knowing this represents a massive leap up in class from what he is used to, but the youngster has nothing to lose and everything to gain. Ranked 56th in the world, keeping himself competitive during the first half of the contest would surely see his stock rise. He’s a man who wants to make an impact in the sport and knows he has been handed a shortcut to the top. The only thing standing between him and glory is Tyson Fury, a man on a mission.
