Miguel Cotto made Canelo Alvarez wait too long according to reports from the Alvarez camp. So Canelo moved onto another fight in May with James Kirkland. However, the date is unknown as it seems everyone is waiting on Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao.
Much of the speculation was that Miguel Cotto was waiting for a decision from Floyd Mayweather because the rematch would be a lucrative deal for Cotto, and he would get to try and avenge a loss. So with Canelo gone from the equations and Mayweather-Pacquiao up in the air, what will Miguel Cotto do now?
According to his advisor Gabriel Peñagarícano, Cotto’s future will be decided soon.
“Nothing is happening for now, but we are waiting for our plans to come to fruition,” Peñagarícano told El Vocero.
Regarding a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight Peñagarícano says, “They know what they have to do to make the fight. I stand to the side and watch like a guy tying his shoe.”
Peñagarícano feels what happens with Mayweather and Pacquiao has no bearing on Cotto’s future.
“What’s happening with Mayweather and Pacquiao doesn’t affect us. Right now, I can’t comment on something I don’t know about. Miguel is keeping in shape while we find an opponent. His return date will be slated for May or June,” explained Peñagarícano.
As far as the opponents go, Peñagarícano stated, “ We have a few options which we can’t really say right now. We tried to make the fight with Canelo in New York, but that didn’t happen so now we’re moving to Plan B.
