Paul ButlerFormer IBF World super flyweight champion Paul Butler (17-1, 8 KO’s) will be back in the ring on July 11 against Gustavo Molina (19-6, 7 KO’s) at The Velodrome in Manchester, UK in a 10 round, non-title bout.

The man from Ellesmere Port is rebounding from his first career defeat- an eighth round TKO against Zolani Tete in March- and has his sights firmly set at the top of the mountain.

Speaking with WorldBoxingNews.net, Butler said he would not let the first significant setback of his professional campaign deter him from reattaining his dream.

“For me this is about getting back in the ring and doing what I do best.”

“I’m in this sport to become a world champion. I’ve tasted it once, and I want that feeling again which is driving me to fight again. I want to prove it to myself and my fans that I will become a world champion again.”

Butler is hoping he can quickly regain his step and plans to go headfirst into the deep end so as not to settle on the cliff of uncertainty, which is where he must have teetered after that first defeat.

“The lessons have been learnt from the loss to Tete and although I’ll never forget it, I have to start rebuilding myself and get the confidence back which means getting back in the ring and start mixing it up, which is what I’m sure a Mexican like Molina will want to do.”

Although he is expected to show the same form that elevated him to the world title against Molina, Butler says he will remain vigilant in the face of complacency, even if his eyes do briefly flicker off into the future every once in a while.

“I’m certainly not looking past Molina right now and he’s my first and only thought. Once I deal with him, then I’ll be in a better position to see what’s next.”
