Rising Nicaraguan boxing star Carlos “Chocorroncito” Buitrago did enough in 2013 to surpass his fellow countryman Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez as the best Nicaraguan fighter; according to the Nicaraguan Professional Boxing Commission.

When you compare the resume’s from last year of Buitrago and Gonzalez, Buitrago did have a better year especially due to the fact that top level fighters refused to face Gonzalez. Buitrago fought four times in 2013 with one of those fights being for a world title. Although he received a draw in the world title fight many boxing fans feel he did more than enough to take the title away from the hometown fighter.

This year Buitrago has already chased after another world title holder since an immediate rematch with Merlito Sabillo is not mandatory. Buitrago was passed up on the opportunity and is currently in search of his first fight this year and the first world title in his young career.
