Felix Sturm and Fedor Chudinov are finally set for their rematch which will take place February 20th in Oberhausen, Germany at the Koenig Pilsener Arena. Although both fighters and their team, not to mention most members of the media, were well aware that the rematch was going to take place, the official announcement and the formal date are significant due to the fact that several outlets had jumped the gun on the date of the rematch several months ago without any press to confirm.
Chudinov agreed to the rematch back in October and it was announced that the fight would take place in December, but that was obviously false.
The Felix Sturm-Fedor Chudinov Rematch is set to be a huge event as Sturm will attempt to claim his 5th world title in a second weight class. This fight will mark Sturm’s third at 168lbs (super middleweight).
Chudinov is undefeated, but with only 14 professional bouts under his belt, he has done much more than fighters with double that fight total. This will be his second title defense of his WBA world title. His success as an experienced amateur with 170 bouts has dictated his quick rise up the professional ranks.
Their first fight ended in a split-decision win for Chudinov who made another appearance following the win against Sturm. Chudinov was last seen in September in Wembley after he easily outpointed Frank Buglioni in a unanimous decision win. Sturm however, has not competed since losing to Chudinov.
Felix Sturm is optimistic this time,” I made a lot of mistakes in the first fight, I could only show 20% of myself, but this time I’m ready, all or nothing, I’ll prove I’m still one of the best in the World.”
Both fighters have expressed a mutual respect for one another, but the competitive nature of this fight seems to be personal. The animosity is built on in-ring drive and determination, making this fight one of 2016’s most anticipated bouts thus far.
