untitledTerence Crawford took a dip in his ratings as per the Nielsen ratings. The Terence Crawford-Ray Beltran main event on HBO averaged 836,000 viewers with the main event peaking at 936,000 viewers. The bout was 7% off the HBO Boxing After Dark averages of 898,000 viewers.

The co-feature between Evgeny Gradovich and Jayson Velez bout averaged 865,000 viewers with a peak of 1.033 million viewers.

The Pacquiao-Algieri replay which opened the HBO telecast averaged 904,000 viewers peaking at 1.120 million viewers.

Now the numbers for the main event significantly dipped and a reason for that could be the late start. Pacquiao-Algieri kicked off the telecast at 10 pm Eastern. With that fight and the co-feature going the full distance, the main event started well past midnight on the East Coast.

I’ve always stated that to make boxing grow more, main events can’t start on the next day especially on Saturdays where there are plenty of things to do then stay cooped in your home until midnight. HBO would be better served to start events earlier to entice the East Coast market.
