Danny Garcia will make his return against Lamont Peterson on the second edition of PBC on NBC Saturday, April 11th. Coming off of two disappointing performances, albeit for very different reasons, this fight is supremely important for Danny to make a statement and put his name back in the superstar mix. He’ll face a tough test in the very talented veteran Lamont Peterson, but Danny and his trainer and father, Angel Garcia gave no indication that they expect anything other than a dominant victory in their conference call with the media.
“It’s a big fight and it’s the fight the fans wanted. We’re going to give the fans a great night of boxing on NBC, and it’s time to show the world Danny is the star of NBC.”
As one of the bigger names signed with Al Haymon, Danny has positioned himself to be a star in the PBC going forward. Prior to his last two fights, a controversial victory over Mauricio Herrera in Puerto Rico and a demolishing of unranked and overmatched Rod Salka, Garcia was on a roll and considered one of the next possible megastars in the sport. Now, Danny knows he needs an impressive performance, one of his famous knockouts perhaps, to erase that bad taste from fans’ mouths.
“We have common opponents like Khan and Matthysse and we’ve had different results. They say styles make fights, so those results don’t matter. Well, my style is to kick his butt.”
Danny is correct in his assessment of he and his opponents varying performances against similar performances. Garcia floored Amir Khan and knocked him out in four rounds. He also took a hard earned 12 round decision over Matthysse in one of the most anticipated fights in recent years. Peterson, however, was knocked out in 3 rounds by Matthysse and took a disused 12 round split decision victory over Khan. Danny will be looking to use his power to get a similar result over Peterson that his former foe Matthysse did.
“A lot of things have changed for me in the last few years, everybody knows me now. A lot of people look at you different now, but it doesn’t make my head bigger, it just motivates me to work hard.”
Danny Garcia will be looking to extend his perfect record to 30-0 and add to his 17 KO’s. It will be far from an easy fight, but as has been hinted at in the past by certain PBC promotions, huge fights could await him if he pulls it off. One of those possible fights, a showdown with friend Adrien “The Problem” Broner, would send hardcore and casual boxing fans alike into a frenzy. If Danny can pass this tough test April 11th, the showdown for the title of Mr. NBC might soon be next on the horizon.
