DannyAngel-Garcia-feature1Not very long ago, unified junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia was well on his way to possibly building himself up to a Floyd Mayweather fight.  He was gaining serious respect from fight fans across the world with wins over Amir Khan, Erik Morales, Zab Judah and Lucas Matthysse. However, instead of capitalizing on his momentum, it all came to a halt in the year 2014 with his poor showing against Mauricio Herrera (in what was viewed as a tune up) and his fight with the over matched Rod Salka who he managed to knockout quickly in devastating fashion, in what was a fight fans did not approve of.

This puts Danny Garcia in a vulnerable position because he must face credible opposition in his next fight in order get some of his luster back, if he doesn’t his stock will plummet greatly. As far as realistic options are concerned for an opponent, only his manager Al Haymon would know. But fans would love to see Garcia unify with IBF champion Lamont Peterson or perhaps fight the flashy Adrien Broner. In regards to his next fight, Danny Garcia tweeted out on January 9th “Announcement will be made in the next week! Stay tuned.” So fans should be expecting to hear from Garcia soon, and I personally hope his opponent will be either Peterson or a top ten welterweight if he does decide to move up in weight.

Many fans are also wondering what network Garcia would be fighting on next since he is no longer a Golden Boy fighter. However, I personally believe Garcia will continue to fight on Showtime regardless of his relationship with Golden Boy Promotions coming to an end.  It is my belief that Haymon’s upper tier clients and bigger names like Broner and Garcia will stay on Showtime and Haymon will use NBC to showcase his other fighters like prospects Errol Spence and Rasheed Warren etc.  However, only time will tell and we will all have to just sit and wait.
