Luis De Cuba Jr., manager of some of the elite fighters in boxing Erislandy Lara, Robert Guerrero, and Rances Barthelemy just to name a few, now has a hot prospect making a meteoric rise at super featherweight named Mario “Golden Boy” Barrios (11-0 6 KO’s). Barrios, coming out of San Antonio, has created a frenzied fan base in his hometown and have made him a name in his division with only 11 fights under his belt.
He fought on the undercard of Anthony Dirrell vs. Marco Antonio Rubio the recent PBC showing on CBS in Corpus Christi, Texas. Tha Boxing Voice’s Mario Mungia got to talk with Luis De Cuba Jr. on the future endeavors of his hot prospect.
“Mario is a sensational talent; he’s 20 years old, and he’s the best prospect coming out of San Antonio bar none he’s probably one of the best prospects in all of boxing.”
“I really think he’s the next big superstar of San Antonio he’s really going to make his city proud he’s about to be 11-0 tonight, and we are looking to come back in November I got big, big hopes for Barrios he’s gonna be the next Golden Boy of boxing.”
Barrios knocked out Jose Cen Torres out in the 4th round. In what seemed to be a stay busy fight, Barrios did what he had to do, as De Cuba said they are looking for him to fight again this year possibly in November. Barrios may not be ready for the elites of his division, but his team is moving along smart so far.
The kid is young, and he has an exciting style, so there should be good things on the horizon of the “Golden Boy” Barrios.
