On March 4th Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia put not just their welterweight titles on the line but they also put their pride and undefeated records up for one of the most anticipated fights since the retirement of former pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather. In the blink of an eye the fight has come and gone and one may be left wondering, did it live up to the hype?

In the months prior to their bout there was quite the buzz with the two fighters constantly taking shots at each other. Things really became interesting after Garcia fought and defeated Sam Vargas when Garcia and Thurman came face to face in the ring. Things got heated between the two and fans were left wanting more. Fast forward a bit to a press conference and let Angel Garcia get on the mic and then things get really out of hand and it seems as not only are these two fighters going to tear each other apart but Angel may get some as well.

By this point, tempers are flaring, the fighters are extra motivated not only win but to punish their opponent and that was evident at the weigh-ins.

On fight night both fighters came out determined and literally swinging for the fences, especially Thurman. The first half of the fight had plenty of exciting moments but as the second half went on the fighters began to tire and the action became limited. No one was looking to take off their opponents head which created a lot of jeers from the fans. In the end, Thurman ended up winning a split decision.

The fight lived up to the hype for a good portion of its entirety.  Both fighters put on a good show but there was so much more that was expected from both fighters. It was a good fight for boxing fans but it could have better at bringing in fans that don’t normally watch boxing. Aside from that and horrible judging from one of the judges, it was a success for PBC and fans got mostly what they expected to get.
