Today thaboxingvoice.com spoke with Puerto Rican jr. welterweight Thomas Dulorme. Dulorme, who is coming off a 10-round decision victory over Karim Mayfield, is currently training with the Robert Garcia Academy in Oxnard, California. He is trying to stay in shape for a targeted upcoming bout in September. There is no information yet on who the opponent for this fight will be, but the fighter told us that the plan is to fight on HBO in late september against a big-name opponent.
Dulorme believes he is having trouble getting big fights because promotors and managers of other fighters see him as a too risky opponent. “Freddie Roach said i was too slick for Ruslan Provodnikov, that’s why they decided to fight Chris Algieri instead,” the slick orthodox fighter told us. He later added, ”I beat Karim Mayfield easier and more decisive than Emmanuel Taylor did. Yet, they give Taylor the big fight against Broner, cause the Broner camp see it as an easier fight.”
Later Thomas Dulorme went on to explain his promotional situation. He was promoted by Gary Shaw, Lou DiBella and Javier Bustillo of Universal Promotions. Universal Promotions is a Puerto Rican-based company. The fighter was afraid that the three promoters weren’t going to be able to work together. So, to prevent future problems, he decided to buy the promotional components of DiBella and Bustillo himself. Which leaves Gary Shaw and himself as the two remaining promotors.
About training far away from home in Oxnard, Dulorme told us that it is a big sacrifice for him and his family. His family still lives in Puerto Rico. Although, his they travel to California from time to time and he comes home to Puerto Rico after his fights, he still misses his family. But he enjoys training at the Roberto Garcia Academy. ”It is a great team. Everything is going well.” Dulorme later explained that staying in shape isn’t the only thing he is doing at the Garcia camp. ”I will probably spar with Marcos to help him prepare for his upcoming fight with Floyd Mayweather. We are a great team. We help each other whenever possible.”
When asked about his opinion on the first fight between Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana, Dulorme told thaboxingvoice.com, ”It was a close fight. But I felt that Marcos did enough to win.”
