This past Saturday opening the HBO Boxing After Dark telecast, light welterweight Thomas Dulorme eked out a split decision win over hard punching Hank Lundy to received his 22nd victory. The fight on paper and heading into the middle rounds became the quintessence boxer (Dulorme) vs. brawler (Lundy) type fight.
Dulorme controlled distance early, until Lundy started to pressure the 24 year old and to put him back into the water in which he had not experienced since the Abregu fight in November of 2012 which he lost via 7th round TKO and the Mayfield fight in March which he won by unanimous decision.
While Dulorme admits that it surprised him that Lundy rushed him, he instates that the change in momentum was so he can step back to establish his jab and use his height to control the tempo and pace.
These days it’s not all about how the fighters performed it’s about how exciting the fight is. Dulorme has the style like many fighters, if you allow him to establish a good rhythm, the excitement of the fight could drastically take a turn for the worst. When asked about his performance Dulorme through his interpreter stated that both him and his team think HBO will be pleased. He stated, “Hanky Lundy is a world class champion fighter and Thomas won. He dominated the fight the way he did. We came here to win and I hope HBO is happy with the performance that we had.”
