Floyd Mayweather Super Bowl Fail, Ellerbe Back ?

770The Super Bowl came and went. Many were expecting a huge Mayweather-Pacquiao announcement during the game to announce it’s version of the boxing Super Bowl, a fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. Well, that never came either, and I didn’t think it was coming either for many reasons.

For starters, the fight announcement would be overshadowed by the game itself. Mayweather has a contract with Showtime who’s parent company is CBS. The Super Bowl was on NBC. Unless Mayweather and Pacquiao were willing to fork over 4.5 million dollars to buy airtime for the event, that wasn’t happening on a rival network. Had the game been on CBS, maybe I would have been inclined to believe that a fight announcement was possible.

Many in the boxing world took to twitter to poke fun at situation. One of those tweets came from Golden Boy’s Oscar De La Hoya.

“@OscarDeLaHoya, I Recorded the #PuppyBowl, maybe they announced the fight there?”

That tweet brought a response from Leonard Ellerbe. His response was,”@LEllerbe @OscarDeLaHoya why you mad bro? We got our own platform, no need to steal anyone’s shine. How about you?”

Rumors swirled around the boxing world after Mayweather’s second fight with Maidana that Ellerbe was out from Mayweather Promotions because of certain issues that took place during the promotion.

However when Mayweather was asked to come in to answer certain questions from the Nevada Athletic Commission regarding the marijuana passed around on the show, “All Access” and the footage showing sparring between two fighters that supposedly went 30 rounds without any breaks, Ellerbe was by Mayweather’s side.

So is Ellerbe back? An email was sent to Mayweather Promotions that was not returned, so your guess is as good as mine. But what is Ellerbe referring to when he says “Our own platform”? Could it be the NBC platform that will be utilized by Al Haymon? Or could it be a platform to use for announcing a fight. But it seems like Ellerbe might be back in the fold.
