Adrien Broner - Shawn Porter

The wait is over, and the talk can officially stop on who will win between Shawn Porter and Adrien Broner tonight on NBC prime time TV, live at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fans seem to be split on this classic pick ‘em fight and it has led to a lot of verbal jabs on social media.

Of course, the talk isn’t officially over until Floyd Mayweather Sr. — father/trainer of pound for pound kingpin Floyd Mayweather Jr.—gives his take.

ThaBoxingVoice’s Nestor Gibbs caught up with Floyd Sr. at the weigh-in for Porter-Broner and he sees this fight the way most do—classic boxer versus mauler. While Floyd Sr. admits this is a relatively even fight, he does have his preference in style.

“It looks to be a very good fight. The way I see it, particularly I like boxers more than I like sluggers, so I think that if Broner box him, move around on him, give him some lateral movement Porter will have a problem. If Porter presses Broner like he has, like we seen Maidana press him, if he could do that, then it’s another win for him. But if he can’t then oh well,” Floyd Sr. said.

It is obvious that Floyd Sr. appreciates boxing skill, but the outspoken trainer enjoys Broner’s antics as well. He believes that Broner is playing a role to sell tickets and make for an interesting promotion, which Floyd Sr. says is a must in this era of boxing. Although, he believes it is also a sign of a fighter’s belief in himself.

“I like confidence. I like people [that are] confident because that’s the thing that makes fights. This man saying the things he’s going to do, it makes everybody want to see what’s really going to happen. You can’t do that if you’re not talking.”
